motocross technology
The TED talk by Clay Shirky, How Social Media Can Make History, discusses how social media can create instant communication about world events. This leads me to think about how technology and communication of my passion for motocross.
Current technology in motocross is advancing in a way that helps riders train to get better. Videos have been used for a long time but now with GPS and two-way helmet communication, riders are getting better each and every day. Using video and GPS together helps the rider with preparation and safety. By using GPS they can see the track even when they are not there. With the two-way communication, the rider has a headset on to talk with coach and trainer what is ahead of them on the track. Without this, the rider would need to finish his lap and then get feedback about what they need to fix. The safety feature with the two way communication the coach can tell the rider right way what's going on with the track right away. So it is really better for the motocross community because the riders get more training time cause they do not need to come off the track as much as they normally would if they did not have this technology.
Yamaha's new four-stroke bikes have a wifi box on the back of the left rear number plate that allows you to connect your phone to it and you can tune the engine from your phone which I think is very cool.
Also, products such as Gopro and Rylo are advertised on social media. When people watch the video on Instagram or Facebook they might want to buy the product because of how much it will help the rider. Video shows how bikes perform on the track and off the track.
Technology for motocross has come a long way and helps riders with riding and tuning the bike.

Hi Tristan,
ReplyDeleteYour knowledge for technology in the motocross world is impressive! I had no idea that bikes had wifi capability and the ability to tune an engine from your phone. Amazing! Have you tried any of this technology in your racing (GPS, headset, etc.)?
well i did ride the new 2020 yamaha bikes and they were awesome handled amazing but i have not gotten a chance to use my gopro camera yet because all the tracks are closed
DeleteTristan, good information about motocross and its advancements. Was there a source you used to obtain this information? Is social media an effective way that motocross racers communicate with each other?
ReplyDeleteyeah social media plays a big role in motocross because the riders are always showing off products or doing a video for a new company
DeleteHi Tristan,
ReplyDeleteThis information is very interesting. How much does all this cost? Also how much time would riders be gaining from not coming off the track? Do you thinks this is better than a wide shot for the riders to see their form and improve from say a picture or video?
I do not know how much it cost but I know from experience coming off the track to mess with the bike or talking to my dad about a certain section on the track takes time and at the track there are classes that go out you have little kids beginners c class b class and a class and the motos are only 15mins so you pull off the track you are missing your practice
